Best Resorts in the Canary Islands for Families

The Canary Islands are amongst the most popular holiday destinations for travellers from the UK. In total there are seven main islands, each with their own appeal. Tenerife, Gran Canaria, Lanzarote, Fuertaventura, La Palma, La Gomera and El Hierro are all picked for different reasons, and tourists can also consider visits to the Chinijo Archipelego including Rogue del Este, Rogue del Oeste, La Graciosa and Alegranza.

Families with children will find plenty of places to stay, and hundreds of attractions to enjoy. These are a few of the best Canary Islands resorts for travellers with kids:

Costa Teguise

Situated on the island of Lanzarote, Costa Teguise has plenty for adults and children alike. It’s an ideal blend of Spanish culture and commercial tourism, and the beaches are perfect for a swim or an afternoon of sunbathing. Kids can track lizards through desert landscapes, get a temporary tattoo or enjoy an afternoon of souvenir shopping with their parents. Yet, the real attractions will definitely be the submarine and boat rides, the Lanzarote Aquarium and nearby volcanic deserts where kids can ride camels (and where adults can visit the dusty local vineyards). Near Teguise, you’ll also find the Pirate Museum. It’s along a narrow road, but well worth the effort if you’ve got young adventurers in your travel party.

Costa Adeje

Tenerife’s Costa Adeje is a mix of the weird and the wonderful. It offers a unique family holiday experience, suited to UK tourists that need their home comforts but want to experience something new. It’s not authentic, but it’s definitely designed with family fun in mind. Take, for example, the resort’s most popular attraction: Siam Park is a Thai-themed water park with huge wave pools, lazy rivers and thrilling flumes and water rides. A second water park, Aqualand, offers an exciting dolphin show and dolphin encounter experiences.

Puerto de la Cruz

Also on the island of Tenerife you’ll find the incredible Puerto de la Cruz, with Loro Parque which is arguably the biggest and best Canary Islands attraction. It’s a zoo, theme park and water park bundled into one, and it offers interactive animal experiences as well as a giant play area, a parrot museum, a cinema, landscaped gardens and an exotic Thai village. This is another coastal resort where you can spend your days on the beach. Don’t miss your chance to visit the Costa Martiánez complex.

For families, Maspalomas is another resort with plenty of attractions to offer. Europe’s only permanent outdoor cinema is a delight for all ages, with screenings of family movies as well as films with higher age ratings. It’s the perfect place to spend time as a family, relaxing under blankets on leather sofas, with pizza brought straight to you. If that’s not your thing, then you can visit the Holiday World theme park which includes a bowling alley, fairground rides, animal shows and a 4D cinema. As with other top Canary Islands family holiday destinations, Maspalomas also boasts wonderful beaches and parks where the kids can let off some steam.
