Banana and Ginger Smoothie

This is a great recipe for taking care of nausea, heartburn and various digestive complaints, thanks to the addition of ginger. Simply blend up a banana, frozen or fresh, around ¾ cup of vanilla yogurt (or frozen yogurt, whatever you fancy), a tablespoon of honey and ¼ a tablespoon of fresh grated ginger.

Super-Healthy Green Smoothie

Green smoothies are a good way of getting some extra veg into your diet, and can be packed with nutrients. For this one, mix 2 bananas, 1 chopped apple, 2 cups chopped kale leaves, ½ cup orange juice, ½ water, some ice cubes and a tablespoon of ground flaxseed, and you’ve got a super-smoothie full of vitamins and omega-3.

Chai Spice Smoothie

If you’re a fan of the warming winter flavours of a chai latte but need a refreshing summer alternative, look no further. Blend up 2 ripe bananas, 2 cups of vanilla yoghurt or vanilla kefir yoghurt, ½ teaspoon cinnamon, 1/8 teaspoon nutmeg, 1/8 teaspoon allspice and as many ice cubes as you like.

Blueberry, Banana and Green Tea Smoothie

This smoothie is an antioxidant powerhouse, and should give you a major energy boost to get your day started. Blend ½ a banana, 1 ½ cups of frozen blueberries and ¾ cup of vanilla soy milk (you can get this fortified with calcium, light or regular, whatever your preference). Brew the green tea separately and add honey to sweeten, then add your tea and mix it all up until smooth.
